Best broadband speeds in South Africa – Speedtest.net

Due to prevailing conditions In September 2011 257,831 broadband speed tests were performed by South Africans using Ookla’s Speedtest.net service. While there were speed tests which were performed from core networks, the majority of the tests were done by consumers using their broadband connections.

Filtering the results shows that 244,449 results (out of the total 257,831 results) fall within parameters which one would expect from broadband connections in South Africa. Most of these tests were performed using the country’s most popular networks:  MTN, MWEB, Telkom, Internet Solutions, Cell C  and Vodacom.

The table below shows the ISPs with the highest number of results which fell within the parameters of broadband connections in South Africa. See the statistics below.

Most popular Speedtest.net servers in SA

After the African broadband users conducted 230,909 Speedtest.net tests, resulting in an average download speed of 3175kbps and an average upload speed of 1407kbps.

Most of the speed tests were performed using South African Speedtest.net servers (221,118), with Great Britain (2,811) and the United States (2,701) the other popular test destinations.
